Newsletter 187 – Autumn 2012
The autumn edition contains a fascinating article by Ron Iremonger on the life cycle of European eel and suggests possible explanations for the drastic reduction in numbers over the last 60 years. In his Meadows Log Andy Inham notes that early season butterfly numbers were hugely affected by the prolonged rain, but numbers started to pick up in August with 5 different species observed on the Meadows and Holly Blues in the Bottoms Lane hedgerow. In mid September at least 100 house martins were seen feeding over the Meadows with 6 swallows. The Newsletter also contains a report on the Green Space Strategic Review meeting which was attended by FoM members and other Friends groups.
